What is Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

During this treatment, we use our state-of-the-art laser to carefully remove the topmost layers of your skin. By eliminating dead and damaged layers, laser skin resurfacing allows new skin cells to form. This process can provide tighter, younger-looking skin. We can also combine our fractional CO2 laser treatments with other skin care services to complement your results.

What are the Benefits of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

Here are just a few of the benefits that our greater Atlanta area patients have seen from their Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing treatments:

  • Can help treat pre-cancerous skin lesions
  • Encourages collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin
  • Improves skin texture and evens skin tone
  • Reduces sun damage, acne scars, and fine lines
  • Very little downtime

Who are the Best Candidates for Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing can address a wide range of flaws and imperfections, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Irregular pigmentation
  • Wrinkles
  • Sagging
  • Irregular skin texture
  • Scarring
  • Dull-looking skin

Because treatment with CO2 lasers is more aggressive and can sometimes cause hyperpigmentation, we generally do not recommend it for patients with darker skin tones. However, we offer a range of other laser skin treatments. Dr. Galitzin can assess your skin during a consultation and determine which treatment option is best for your needs and goals.

What to Expect on the Day of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is a relatively short outpatient procedure. Depending on the size of the area being treated, treatment can take between 30 minutes and two hours. Before beginning, we will administer a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. For more involved treatments targeting larger areas, we also offer sedation. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Galitzin or one of our technicians will use the fractional CO2 laser to precisely target skin imperfections. They may use the laser to stimulate collagen production below the skin surface or remove the outer layers of the skin. The specifics of your procedure will depend on the issues being treated and the extent of treatment required.

Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing Recovery

In general, more dramatic results require more in-depth treatments and a longer recovery. Recovery may take between 10 and 21 days. During the first 12 to 72 hours, you may feel itching or stinging. Some swelling is also normal for a few days after the procedure.

About a week after laser resurfacing, your skin will likely begin to peel. After the initial healing period, you can use oil-free makeup to minimize redness. It can take two or three months for the redness to fully disappear. It is crucial to use consistently broad-spectrum sunscreen after your skin resurfacing treatment as excessive skin exposure can affect your results.

How Much Does Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing Cost in Atlanta, GA?

The cost of Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing in the Atlanta area is based on multiple factors, including the size of the treatment area and how many sessions you will need. After coming in for your consultation and having a treatment plan made for you, our Patient Coordinator will be able to give you a breakdown of the total cost of your treatment.
